Snöras - "Plague Waters"

Genre: screamo/hardcore
Country: Norway

I was recommended this band by a member of fellow Oslonians Death Is Not Glamorous, and for good reason, they're fucking great. This album has quite a unique guitar sound and lots of catchy hooks.

Young Widows - "Old Wounds"

Genre: noise rock/post-punk
Country: US

Like dirty bass? Like lots of reverb?, this album is hypnotic and heavy as hell. Imagine the Jesus Lizard made an experimental album with These Arms Are Snakes.

Adebisi Shank - "The Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank"

Genre: math rock/instrumental/progressive
Country: Ireland

Awesome experimental rock, think Russian Circles on speed with mathy guitars and the bass grooves of Lightning Bolt. A precursor to "The EP Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank". Seriously.

Marvins Revolt - "Killec"

Genre: indie/math/pop
Country: Denmark

Melodic, edgy and catchy as hell, you'll grow to love this album. Worth a listen for the song "New Year's In Warsaw" alone.

Kidcrash - "Demo 06"

Genre: screamo/emo
Country: US

The 2006 release from Kidcrash. Emotive and mathy screamo. A completely different sound from the emo early stuff (New Ruins-era).

Fed By Ravens - "Second Guessing, Second Chances"

Genre: punk/thrash/garage
Country: US

Only release from the short-lived Fed By Ravens. 8 tracks of catchy and slightly odd rock 'n roll punk with elements of screamo vocals and thrashy guitars. Some members are now in Tora! Tora! Torrance!

The Fall Of Troy - "Phantom On The Horizon"

Genre: progressive/screamo
Country: US

The long awaited official release of the 'Ghostship Demos'.
thanks to Andar at The Flood for the link.

Neil On Impression - "The Perfect Tango"

Genre: instrumental/post-rock
Country: Italy

Highly progressive and dynamic post-rock, epic and without a dull moment. NoI also features members of Raein.

Suis La Lune - "Heir"

Genre: emo/screamo
Country: Sweden

Latest EP from the Swedes, 4 tracks of intelligent, passionate and melodic skramz. Currently on a US tour with Osceola.

Monarcs - "Apocalyptic Bebop"

Genre: screamo/math rock
Country: US

Inventive and infectious, these 4 tracks from this Miami 4-piece make up a great EP. Think a screamier Bear Vs. Shark with Hot Cross guitars and you're scratching the surface. They also have a split 10" with Thank God, which I might put up sometime. No idea why it's not spelt Monarch's though...

Ema Camelia - "Ema Camelia"

Genre: screamo/emo
Country: Czech Rep

Dark and moody skramz, saw them in Czech Republic last summer, they put on an awesome show.

This Town Needs Guns - "Animals"

Genre: emo/indie/math rock
Country: UK

Oxford's TTNG's new release provides more top-notch Tim Kinsella-inspired mathy indie.
Signed to Big Scary Monsters here in the UK and Sargent House in the US.

ViolentBreakfast - "Nient'altro Che Tempo"

Genre: screamo/emo violence
Country: Italy

ViolentBreakfast were an awesome band from Italy with a slightly experimental side to their skramz. They broke up a couple of months ago and I was lucky enough to see one of their last shows in the UK. Some of the ex-members are now in Chambers.

Grave, Shovel... Let's Go! / Meandgoliath split 7"

Genre: emo/screamo
Country: Germany/UK

Meandgoliath are a trio from London and contain members of Battle of Wolf 359. Whereas BoW359 bludgeon you with a heavy assault, Meandgoliath have an interesting, lighter more complex approach to skramz. GSLG's side compliments the record perfectly with catchy guitars and shouts.

Danse Macabre - "Synkopenleben, Nein Danke"

Genre: screamo/emo violence
Country: Germany

A record that demonstrates this bands ability to go from raw passionate chaos, like the screamo/emo of yester-year, to infectious melodic hooks, complete with warm crackle of crappy 12" conversion. You'll be hooked by track 3.

Algernon Cadwallader - "Some Kind of Cadwallader"

Genre: emo/math rock
Country: US

Like Owls, Cap'n Jazz or American Football? then you're guaranteed to enjoy this feel good record. Possibly one of my favourite releases this year.

Wednesday 19 November 2008

Aussitôt Mort - "Montuenga"

Genre: screamo/post-rock
Country: France

A large question mark was left hanging over this band when their vocalist left this summer, luckily they carried on and this is the latest release from these amazing Frenchmen.
Possibly invented "emo-doom" or should that be "doomo"?

Phoenix Bodies - "Raise the Bullshit Flag"

Genre: screamo/punk
Country: US

Fill a das Oath-shaped hole with under 15 minutes of face melting spastic grind/hardcore punk. This band is only just starting to get the recognition they deserve.
